  • On the morning of September 30, Officer Samuel Lopez responded to a call about a loose animal and stayed nearly two hours with a frightened, injured dog—spoon-feeding it his lunch and sharing water from his thermal bottle. The dog has received veterinary care and Rutherford County PAWS is working to locate its owner.  WGNS

  • Murfreesboro’s old YMCA building is being remodeled into a 41,000-square-foot UFC Gym with construction already underway in the parking lot to build a connector road from the Walmart stoplight to Armory Drive—plans must first be approved before work on the interior starts and the gym opens in June–July 2026.  Murfreesboro.com

  • Blackman Community Church invites locals to a free Music Inspired by Community Night on Sunday, October 19th at 6:00 PM at the Lane Agri-Park Center — singer-songwriter Cami Crites will perform original songs and share her story.   • Thirteen haunted attractions across Middle Tennessee offer spooky experiences—some open until the end of October and others until early November with ticket prices starting at $15.   • MTSU professor Raj Srivastava recently appeared on NBC’s new competition show On Brand with Jimmy Fallon after his viral TikTok videos caught the producers’ attention—he pitched a marketing idea for Dunkin' in the debut episode. MTSU Physician Assistant Studies students also practiced emergency care in a mass casualty simulation that mimicked a tornado event with limited resources.  The Daily News Journal

  • The Tennessee Valley Authority cleaned up many area public lands last month for National Public Lands Day—TVA's Adam May said more details will be shared soon.  WGNS

  • The Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway hosted the Breast Cancer Awareness event—Autumn Thunder—on Oct. 4 with 125 race cars competing in nine divisions to support the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition. Local racer Landon Thrasher secured his fourth consecutive win as the season prepares to close with the All-American 400 Weekend next month.  FOX 17
  • Murfreesboro sports fans can vote for the TSSAA boys athlete of the week for Sept. 29-Oct. 4 with nominees including Blackman's Braxton Head and Cannon County's Jayden Shannon — the poll will close at 2 p.m. on Oct. 9.  The Daily News Journal
  • On Sunday, the Titans beat the Cardinals 22-21 in Arizona to end a 10-game losing streak. Coach Callahan said key plays and turnovers — including Joey Slye's game-winning field goal — helped his team turn around in their rebuilding season.  Murfreesboro Post
