COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 2, MTSU students and volunteers built panels at the Student Union Commons for a Habitat for Humanity project for a local Rutherford County neighbor— the panels were later moved to Legacy Pointe Neighborhood to be assembled into a new home.  MTSU Sidelines
  • The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting entries for the 2025 Christmas Parade, which will take place Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. from Middle TN Blvd / Main St to Walnut Street one block past the Public Square—applications must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 5 for this Sweet Christmas event.  City of Murfreesboro

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buc-ee’s will hold its groundbreaking for a new facility of over 74000 square feet on October 14th at 3:30 p.m. off Joe B. Jackson Parkway in Murfreesboro— the project will create more than 250 permanent jobs, include over 120 gas pumps, and take about 12 to 14 months to complete.  Murfreesboro.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 30, 2025, Sandy Knox held a Q&A at the new Sandy Knox Lyric Lounge in the Miller Education Center at MTSU where she shared how she turned her early passion for music into hit songs—she urged students to follow their own paths in songwriting. She joined the panel with Dean Beverly Keel to offer advice and answer questions about building a career in music.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City Council approved a phased development agreement for the Keystone Project to add apartments, condos, retail space, and a hotel downtown. The first phases are valued at about $4.4 million and will fund road improvements from the land sale — the project will move forward in phases despite some council concerns.  FOX 17
  • On Oct. 2, the Murfreesboro City Council accepted a plan from Site Engineering Consultants to redevelop downtown with 98 condos, 231 leased units, and 30,800 square feet of retail and office space along Broad Street, Church Street, and West Vine. The project, which uses tax increment financing and will be built in phases starting around February 2027, is set to improve streets with added turn lanes and repaving—if approved, the hotel phase will complete around 2030.  Murfreesboro Post

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • TDK Companies has broken ground today on Vintage 1959, an $84 million mixed-use community with 232 residences, three office suites, and over 17,000 square feet of retail—located near Medical Center Parkway—and pre-leasing will begin in winter 2026 with a $49 million construction loan led by Pinnacle Financial Partners.  Murfreesboro.com
  • Murfreesboro City Council approved the Keystone Project — a plan to transform the area between Church Street and Vine Street by adding 239 multifamily units, 100 condominiums with 3,000 sq. ft. of retail, and a new 115-room hotel with 7,100 sq. ft. of retail. Developers must finalize plans by March 1 as WGNS Radio and city offices prepare to relocate before construction and infrastructure upgrades begin.  Murfreesboro.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a long contract standoff ended on Oct. 4, Predators forward Luke Evangelista signed a two-year, $6 million deal and returned to training camp on Oct. 6 with help from former defenseman Ryan Ellis. He practiced at Centennial Sportsplex and will prepare for the home opener on Oct. 9.  The Daily News Journal
  • Murfreesboro's New Year's Day 5K will take place at Barfield Crescent Park on January 1 at 10 a.m. Registration is open until December 31 at 8:00 p.m., and the family-friendly, electronically timed race costs $30+ a minimal processing fee with every finisher receiving a medal.  City of Murfreesboro
