- ➤ This weekend, Rutherford County will host a range of events including a 1-mile pumpkin fun run at Gateway Park on Saturday, October 11 from 4 to 5 pm with registrations beginning at 3 pm, a free Day of Play at the MTSU Livestock Center on Sunday from 1 to 4 pm, family-friendly Fright Nights at Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center starting today from 6 to 10 pm, a glow-in-the-dark spooky mini golf and haunted maze at GO USA beginning October 10, and a Tyler Childers concert at Geodis Park happening today and Saturday at 7 pm to benefit local relief. - ➤ Nardo the True, a junior at MTSU, will release his new R&B track 'Inner Thoughts' on Oct 19 as a tribute to his late aunt who battled breast cancer—he channels his grief into his music as part of his forthcoming album 'Dorothy’s Letter' during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. MTSU Sidelines
- ➤ Today the Woman’s Club is renovating the historic Italianate home at East College and North Academy built in 1856 by Robert Turner Baskette; electricians are rewiring the building and plumbers are upgrading Apartment 2’s system while a donation of 15,000 dollars from the John D. Floyd Charitable Foundation and proceeds from Sliver Coffee and Tea 2025 support roof and HVAC repairs in an ongoing preservation campaign. - ➤ Rutherford County Fire and Rescue Captain Shane Richardson was honored with the 2025 Firefighter of the Year Award on Wednesday at Through the Grapevine in Murfreesboro—he was recognized for his long career and a recent 48-hour shift that included 56 engine runs. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Rutherford County’s Department of Health published inspection scores from Oct. 2-9 for local food service, childcare and pool establishments, including several in Murfreesboro. The scores come from routine visits by environmental specialists twice yearly+ they are posted at each location for public review. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ During an October 6 inspection, Asuka Hibachi & Buffet at 645 Presidents Place in Smyrna scored 64 when inspectors found a pan of fried shrimp left out at 78°F — leading to 25 pounds of food being embargoed — a drop from its usual routine scores. Rutherford County Source
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Senior guard Alayna Contreras was named to the 2025—26 Conference USA Women’s Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team after a strong season last year, and the Blue Raiders were picked third in the league poll.
