- ➤ MTSU’s Tennessee Miller Coliseum hosted the Country Music Cluster Dog Show from September 23 to 26, drawing more than 1,500 dogs across over 100 breeds to compete in indoor events and the outdoor FastCat dash. The Nashville Kennel Club celebrated its 100th anniversary by partnering with the Greater Murfreesboro Kennel Club—spectators enjoyed food trucks and vendor displays with $5 parking. WGNS
- ➤ Oaklands Mansion at 901 N. Maney Ave in Murfreesboro will host two Halloween experiences—on October 16 and 17, a speakeasy offering live jazz, specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for adults, and on October 20, a free haunted storytelling night with local lore for families—in the historic estate. - ➤ The McNeilus Volterra ZSL electric trash collection truck made in Murfreesboro won the 2025 Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee award from the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is North America's first fully electric collection vehicle — selected from more than 100 nominees statewide and built at the facility on Joe B. Jackson Parkway near Interstate 24. - ➤ MTSU's annual Mystery Book Sale took place from Oct 8 to Oct 10 in the Peck Hall courtyard, drawing many students who bought $5 books wrapped in paper with hints about their genre to support the English Graduate Student Organization. The event showcased various book types & helped build a supportive community among graduate students while funding future activities. MTSU Sidelines
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last week, former Rep. Donna Barrett spoke at the Tennessee State Advisory Task Force on Solid Waste in Murfreesboro about the Middle Point Landfill, which she said is receiving trash from (27 counties and six states). Her remarks stressed that local residents should not bear the burden of waste from other areas. WGNS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city's Fall Leaf Collection season will start on October 13 and run until January 31—residents may pile loose leaves curbside if they follow posted guidelines. Crews from the Street and Solid Waste departments will work on opposite sides of Broad Street—Streets serving the north and east while Solid Waste handles the south and west. City of Murfreesboro
- ➤ Rutherford County Fire and Rescue Captain Shane Richardson received the 2025 Firefighter of the Year Award at a lunch reception at Through the Grapevine in Murfreesboro on Wednesday, where he was honored for his dedication & leadership in emergency training and service. Rutherford County Source
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Murfreesboro area high school football is heating up as five 6A teams use a fall break bye week to prepare for key October 17th games—Oakland, Riverdale, Blackman, Rockvale and Siegel build on recent wins as they aim for playoff pushes. Oakland carried a 35-14 win over Rockvale while Riverdale boosted its season with a strong 31-13 victory. MTSU Sidelines
- ➤ The Central Magnet girls’ golf team finished runner-up for the second straight year after losing a one-hole playoff to Greeneville in the Class A state tournament in Sevier County—despite closing a five-shot gap after the opening round. Murfreesboro Post
