  • The Kiwanis Club of Murfreesboro installed its 2025-2026 officers at a meeting at The Warehouse and honored Angie Morris—broker/owner of Southern Tradition Realty—as 2025 Kiwanian of the Year. The club, which has served local children since 1921, meets every Wednesday.  Murfreesboro.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Swig will open a new store at 1213 Greenland Drive — near Middle Tennessee State University — as franchisee Mark Kunz brings the popular chain to Murfreesboro, with an expected launch in late October or early November that adds a fresh drink and snack option for the area.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dana Chapman is ending her 17-season run of Dead Land Haunted Woods after Halloween (she will host an open house on Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cedars of Lebanon State Park to display memorabilia and celebrate the long-running event).  Murfreesboro Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee State University’s Forensic Institute for Research and Education will host forensic expert Eric Bartelink on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom — his lecture 'Sifting Through the Ashes' will cover his work recovering wildfire victims in Paradise and Maui.  WGNS

HEALTH NEWS

  • MTSU will host a three-day blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Oct 27-29 at Campus Rec at 1848 Blue Raider Drive to compete with WKU and help patients with sickle cell disease. Donors and volunteers can sign up in advance, and donors will receive a commemorative T-shirt, a $10 eGift card, and free pizza+football tickets.  Rutherford County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school volleyball state tournament will start on October 21 in Murfreesboro with games at Siegel, Rockvale and Blackman, and state championships will be held at MTSU (Murphy Center) on October 24. Division II semifinal matchups will be set today (after quarterfinals) while Division I brackets and scores have been released.  The Daily News Journal
  • Liberty Creek won the District 9-AA girls soccer title with a 2-0 overtime victory over two-time defending champion Station Camp on Thursday night. The team, which saw key goals from Avery Baker and Addie Medina and strong play by senior goalkeeper Addie Taylor, clinched the win — setting up a home match with Hume-Fogg on Tuesday.  Murfreesboro Post
  • The Titans will play the New England Patriots on Oct. 19 at Nissan Stadium without four players—Calvin Ridley, Arden Key, Blake Hance, and Bryce Oliver—as they have been ruled out before the game. Kicker Joey Slye is set to return after a calf injury and defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat is tracking to possibly leave injured reserve.  The Daily News Journal
  • On Sept. 21, MTSU women's soccer lost by a score of 2 to 1 to New Mexico State at their home stadium in Murfreesboro, ending a two-game win streak. The Aggies earned their first Conference USA win with goals from Meredith Scott and Jaiden McClellan — a surprising upset played in the Blue Raiders' first home meeting with the Aggies.  MTSU Sidelines
