- ➤ Ascend Federal Credit Union donated $17,500 to Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee this year to support summer camp aid, new leader jumpstart and Council Quest resources — the donation also reinforces the credit union’s longstanding commitment to local community programs including free K-12 financial literacy education and tree donations for local troops. - ➤ On Saturday, October 18th, over 3,000 protestors waved flags and held signs during the No Kngs rally on Broad Street between South Church and Vine in Murfreesboro—originally set for The Avenue but moved downtown due to Halloween events and limited space. WGNS

- ➤ Wine Around the Square will be held on Saturday, October 25th in downtown Murfreesboro. The event starts with a VIP party at Whiskey Dix at 4:30 p.m. —followed by a tasting walk at 6:00 p.m. that benefits the Power of Pink Fund and serves dinner from local venues while honoring Patty Marschel. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Eligible Tennessee families with a child age 14 or younger can receive up to an extra $1,500 for college savings by opening a TNStars account through the state’s TIPS program. The program offers a 4-to-1 match for deposits made by June 30, 2026 and requires meeting income guidelines set by the Tennessee Department of Treasury (applications are online) (to help fund future education). - ➤ Local deputies in Murfreesboro completed the 'Effective Policing: Autism Response' training course this week to learn how to better recognize and safely de-escalate situations involving autistic individuals—guest speaker Tanner Smith shared personal insights that underscored the importance of inclusive policing. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Middle Tennessee State University is hosting its annual 'Bleed Blue to Beat WKU' blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 27–29 at the Campus Recreation Center (1848 Blue Raider Drive), a friendly competition with Western Kentucky University that focuses on collecting blood for patients with sickle cell disease. Donors will receive a commemorative T-shirt and a $10 eGift card (free pizza and a chance to win game tickets or one of three $500 gift cards), and volunteers are needed to help run the event. WGNS

- ➤ Oakland won 56-0 against La Vergne on Friday night, keeping its unbeaten record at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 3-6A play. The Patriots built a 35-0 lead in the first quarter and scored two defensive touchdowns plus one on special teams, with senior tailback Kemani Bass rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown. - ➤ Davidson Academy broke its three-game losing streak with a 21-6 win at Portland on Friday (Ronald Moore scored two touchdowns) and (Ridge Holman threw for 318 yards). The win puts the team in a strong position as they prepare for a region contest on Friday. Murfreesboro Post
- ➤ The Tennessee Titans ruled punter Johnny Hekker questionable with an illness for today's game against the New England Patriots at noon CT. The team does not have a backup punter and may look to add one before kickoff. The Daily News Journal
