COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Shabby Lane Fall Treat and Holiday Sneak Peek will take place on Saturday, October 25th at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center at 315 John R Rice Blvd in Murfreesboro — the event offers free admission, free gifts for the first 200 adult shoppers, and shopping with 70 small businesses from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, trick or treating is available from noon to 3 p.m.  Rutherford County Source
  • Rutherford County will host several trick-or-treat events this week — Smyrna’s Halloween in the Park and LaVergne’s Goblins and Goodies will take place on October 25, while Murfreesboro will hold a drive-through Trunk or Treat on October 28 and organized trick-or-treating on the Public Square on October 31. Families can enjoy free admission, costume contests, and safe, community fun at these scheduled events.  Rutherford County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Rutherford County Archaeological Society will host its free monthly meeting on October 24th at Oaklands Mansion, 901 N. Maney Avenue; doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the event starts at 2:00 p.m. Underwater archaeologist Dr. Andrew J. Van Slyke from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will share his research on shipwrecks — using modern tools to detect historical artifacts — as he explains new insights into maritime history.  WGNS
  • Lucky Ladd Farms in Eagleville welcomes visitors back to its Fall Harvest Festival with a new barn, bakery, and pumpkin-scaped displays—offering apple cider donuts, slushies, and a corn maze that bring classic fall fun. The festival runs through Oct. 31 and gives families a place to enjoy a petting zoo and other seasonal activities.  MTSU Sidelines
  • On Sunday afternoon, October 26th, the Rutherford County Archeological Society hosts a meeting at Oaklands Mansion where historian Roxanne Jenkins—an expert in local archaeology—will explain the history of Valentine Sevier’s Station, a key site in early Tennessee settlement.   • Erin Powers, a PE teacher at Homer Pittard Campus School, was named Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2026 by the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD).  Rutherford County Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee is showing a bright fall foliage display as trees glow in red, orange, and gold from Murfreesboro to nearby areas until early November — forecasters say Middle Tennessee is peaking now through Nov. 4. Visitors can enjoy the colors that rival those in New England without leaving home.  WGNS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rutherford County will host Drug Take Back Day on Friday—10/24—from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic on 1272 Garrison Drive and MMC on 3325 Shores Road so residents can safely drop off unused prescriptions and vapes—organized by the Prevention Coalition for Success with support from the Sheriff's Strategies and Tactics for Opioid Prevention team to reduce medication misuse and environmental risks.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee State football will try to earn its first Conference USA win when the Blue Raiders face Delaware today at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2 — the team, coming off a three-game losing streak, will need to make key plays to turn around its season.  The Daily News Journal
  • Caroline Macander stepped into the starting setter role for MTSU’s Blue Raiders after limited playing time and recorded 35 assists with 25 digs in the season opener while earning college volleyball player of the week. The senior — who credits a change in mindset for her breakout performance — finished the weekend with 99 assists and now leads the team in key stats this season.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Tuesday morning, Eagleville volleyball swept Merrol Hyde 3-0 with set scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-9 in the Class A state tournament. The Eagles extended their 22-game winning streak by capitalizing on opponents' errors and making key plays throughout the match.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Several linemen from Middle Tennessee Electric won top honors at the 41st Annual International Lineman’s Rodeo & Expo held October 15–18 in Overland Park, Kansas—an event featuring teams from around the world—and their Journeyman team took first place in the Co-Op Division among 42 teams—ranking 10th overall out of 290 teams.  WGNS
