CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Eight Rutherford County high schools will host fall theater productions with students performing plays and musicals such as Elf Jr. at Stewarts Creek High and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown at Riverdale High — while Oakland High cancels its show due to new auditorium construction. Other schools will present productions including The Play That Goes Wrong, High School Musical Jr., Almost Maine, Treasure Island, Annie Jr. and Clue with scheduled dates and ticket prices set for each event. - ➤ Rutherford County Schools cut the ribbon on Tennessee’s first fleet of mobile learning labs at a ceremony on Wednesday — the labs are housed in three 48-foot semi-trailers, cost $2.6 million, and will travel to middle schools to show students 16 career pathways. Rutherford County Source

- ➤ Tennessee now treats bicycles, including electric ones, as vehicles so riders must follow the same traffic laws as motorists + they are required to ride on the right, use hand signals, and display proper lights while those 15 or under must wear helmets and follow specific e-bike class rules+. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Rutherford County health inspectors released scores for local food service spots and tattoo studios from October 16 to October 23. The scores show sites received routine, follow-up, and complaint results—reports that must be posted for public review at county health offices. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ The American Red Cross remains low on blood so the Heart of Tennessee Chapter at 501 Memorial Blvd is asking local donors to help—donors will get free A1C tests in November and be entered in a sweepstakes from October 20 through November 16. Local drives at the Murfreesboro center and Middle Tennessee State University on October 27 and 28 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM will offer $20 in e-gift cards with an extra $10 as an incentive—helping address the critical shortage. - ➤ Middle Tennessee’s Blue Raiders played their first fall ball game on October 19 at Reese Smith Jr. Field and beat Walters State 11-3 in a 14-inning matchup. Twelve new players and strong pitching built a 3-0 lead before scoring 11 runs, and the team will prepare for a regular season starting mid-February — they plan to compete for a Conference USA Tournament spot. - ➤ The MTCS girls volleyball team captured its first TSSAA Division II-A state championship with a 3-1 win over Silverdale Baptist Academy at MTSU’s Murphy Center last night. Senior Jada Burns, who recorded 27 kills, was named MVP — leading the Cougars to a 31-3 season record. WGNS
- ➤ Middle Tennessee State football lost 31-28 to Delaware on Oct. 22 as key penalties and mistakes cost the Blue Raiders a narrow win. Coach Derek Mason said the team will review the tape before games against Jacksonville State on Oct. 29 and Western Kentucky on Nov. 15 while quarterback Nick Vattiato passed 9,000 career yards in the contest. - ➤ Titans rookie Cam Ward has thrown 10 turnovers in his first seven games (5 interceptions and 5 fumbles), nearly matching former quarterback Will Levis' 11 turnovers in his first seven games (8 interceptions and 3 fumbles).
