  • Raptor Rhapsody Event will take place on November 5 at 1 p.m. at the Wilderness Station at Barfield Crescent Park—offering free classes on owls, hawks and falcons for guests of all ages, with no registration required.   • Downtown Murfreesboro’s historic square is buzzing after 5:00 p.m.—young residents who want to live here have brought new energy while local police increase their walking beat for safety.   • Rutherford County will replace the seven-year-old Leyland Cypress tree with a three-story artificial Christmas tree at the courthouse square on December 5. County officials said the tree was removed due to declining health—following practices already seen in nearby cities.  WGNS

  • Buc-ee’s broke ground on its new travel center at I-24 and Joe B. Jackson Parkway in Murfreesboro on October 15; the 74,000 sq ft facility will include 120 fueling stations and fresh food options while creating at least 250 full-time jobs — local road improvements are underway to support increased traffic.  Murfreesboro.com
  • Pinnacle Financial Partners celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 16th at 4 p.m. at its remodeled branch at 1745 Memorial Boulevard in Murfreesboro. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Department of Environment and Conservation, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service launched a project to bring red-cockaded woodpeckers back to Tennessee by 2028. The news was shared at the TWRA Biodiversity Summit at MTSU on Oct. 22 — the woodpeckers had not been seen since 1994 and over 600 people attended.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh honored three long-time professionals who helped build the department’s trust—Public Information Officer Lisa Marchesoni for 15 years of service, communications coordinator Heather Pedigo for 25 years, and Training Lt. Scott Martin for 25 years. Their combined 65 years of dedicated work underscored the commitment to public service in the Sheriff's Office.  WGNS

  • Blackman High School inducted five alumni into its Athletic Hall of Fame on October 25, drawing alumni, coaches and fans to the school gymnasium — Jazz Bond, Tyler Garrison, Kalei Harding, Master Teague III and Ahmir Watkins — who were honored for their high school and later sports achievements.  WGNS
  • Stewarts Creek girls' soccer team earned a state berth with a 3-1 win over Walker Valley on Saturday, with freshman Aimee Rondon scoring twice; they will begin state play Tuesday at Baylor School with the championship on Friday.
