COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Greenhouse Ministries, a local nonprofit, will host its annual turkey drive with food donations accepted on November 21 and a giveaway on November 22 between 8 a.m. and noon—enough meals will be provided to serve 650 families while at least 300 volunteers are needed to help with distribution.  WGNS
  • Families can join today's Truck or Treat event held by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office at Oakland Middle School from 5:30 to 7 p.m. — Oakland Middle and Oakland High Schools co-sponsor the event, which offers decorated vehicles and food trucks to ensure a safe Halloween celebration.  Rutherford County Source
  • The 2nd Annual Murfreesboro Holiday Market will be held Saturday, November 22nd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 6790 John Bragg Hwy. The event will offer festive food, artisan gifts, Santa visits, live music and a petting zoo + over 100 local vendors.  Rutherford County Source

  • Families in Murfreesboro can enjoy a week of Halloween events starting with Trick-or-Treat on the Row today at Greek Row and Trick-or-Treat at Floyd Stadium on Oct 29 featuring a concert and a football game. Local businesses offer fun trick-or-treating on Murfreesboro Square while Cedar Glade Brews will host an after-Halloween party on Nov 1—costumes are optional.  MTSU Sidelines

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Monday, October 27, Tennessee drivers paid an average of $2.61 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, making the state the fifth cheapest nationally, though local prices varied with Rutherford County at about $2.53 and Shelbyville ten cents lower. Diesel averaged $3.36 per gallon statewide, while prices in California and Hawaii reached much higher levels—highlighting wide regional differences.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU students and staff in the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences took part in a poverty simulation during Engage Week to learn about the hard choices low-income families must face. The exercise, organized by the Social Work and Human Development and Family Science programs, had participants role-play four 12-minute cycles—each round mimicking a week of real-life struggles.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee lost 31 to 28 at Delaware on October 22nd after trailing early and scoring an 89 yard touchdown with 1:03 remaining, but Delaware recovered an onside kick to secure the win.   • Local high school football teams will play crucial week 11 games this weekend as some face their final contest this season and others begin playoff rounds. Key matchups include teams like Franklin Road Acad. & Mt. Pleasant as they chase win-and-in opportunities.  Murfreesboro Post
  • MTSU club hockey won two games in Pelham, Alabama this weekend by sweeping University of Alabama 4-1 and 6-1 to record its 10th straight win — the team showed strong defense and physical play in both games and will look to build on its success in upcoming contests.  MTSU Sidelines
