  • HD Supply will close its La Vergne location on January 9, affecting 108 workers, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development—local officials will offer services to help those workers who are not unionized. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from the Humanitarian Aid and Crisis course hosted the 'Horrors of War' interactive haunted house at the Keathley University Center on Oct. 27—teaching international humanitarian law through a tour of three themed rooms. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Murfreesboro officials announced the city received its 4,000th odor complaint against Middle Point Landfill, but Republic Services disputed the claim—saying the city never shared its data. City leaders raised concerns over environmental violations and harmful chemical leaks that may affect public water and air, and legal challenges continue as the landfill is expected to reach capacity in 5–7 years.  NewsChannel 5

  • Murfreesboro Police Lieutenant Sean Garrison, Sergeant Jacob Fountain and Sergeant Travis Henderson graduated from the Southeastern Leadership Academy on October 24 at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga—attended by Deputy Chief Steve Jarrell and Captain Jeff Keaton.   • The City of Murfreesboro is asking residents to provide input through an interactive mapping tool to plan improvements that reduce roadway injuries and fatalities.
