COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Journey Home moved to 1207 Old Salem Road and launched an urgent food drive because its pantry shelves were empty. The new facility includes 10 short-term housing units and an expanded Community Café—boosting services like healthcare, employment assistance, and educational support for local residents.  WGNS
  • SNAP benefits are ending for many Tennessee families, and middle Tennessee communities are expanding food support with new hours and walk-in services. In Murfreesboro, Wilkinson Family Therapy will host a two-day food support event on Nov. 8 and 9—neighbors are encouraged to donate and volunteer to help those in need.  FOX 17

  • M.L.Rose Neighborhood Pub will open on November 24 in Murfreesboro at 2108 Medical Center Parkway, marking the eighth location for the locally owned chain—its building has been updated with local design touches. Founder Austin Ray said the new pub will offer shareable snacks, craft beers and seasonal cocktails along with special events.  Murfreesboro.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU students learned to save lives with CPR, first aid, and AED training provided by American Heart Association instructor Ian Weir and Middle Tennessee Council on Family Relations advisor Rebecca Oldham on Saturday, Nov 1 (a three-hour session). They earned hands-on certification and practical experience that will boost their job readiness in social and human services fields.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal shutdown halted SNAP benefits in Rutherford County, leaving many families at risk as local food banks prepared for higher demand. A Ford F-250 flipped on I-840 near a school bus—with all 19 students and the driver unharmed—and a local resident won $100,000 in Saturday’s Powerball drawing as the jackpot rose to $419 million.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee State women's basketball coach Rick Insell discussed the Lady Raiders’ season-opening win over TSU — he credited the team's strong play and teamwork with setting a positive tone for the season.  The Daily News Journal
  • TSWA/USA TODAY Network released statewide high school football rankings entering the TSSAA playoffs and in Class 4A Greeneville jumped to the top after an upset of Alcoa—earning 152 points with a 9-1 record while Alcoa finished with 131 points.  The Daily News Journal
  • Tennessee basketball hosted Mercer on November 3 at Thompson-Boling Arena as the team opened its season with the game streamed nationally on SEC Network+; BetMGM odds had the Vols favored by 28.5 points.  The Daily News Journal
  • TSSAA hall of famer Gary Rankin worked for 44 years, and more than a dozen of his former assistant coaches became head coaches at local schools. Many of them won state championships and led their teams to strong playoff runs—Rankin said his early hires at Riverdale set the stage for their success.  The Daily News Journal
