  • Rutherford County residents face food shortages as SNAP funds ran out on November 1 due to the government shutdown, and Tennessee Gov. Lee launched FeedTN.org to link more than 690,000 people with local food pantries—these include centers at MTSU, Greenhouse Ministries, and the Salvation Army offering meals, groceries, and essential supplies.  MTSU Sidelines

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Art Studio Tour returns in its 32nd year when six art studios will open free on November 21—23 for a self-guided tour. Locals will meet artists and view creative works across studio spaces—showcasing our community’s artistic spirit ahead of the holiday weekend.  WGNS
  • Local author Karen Ferguson released her new children’s picture book Guess Why God Made the Rainbow — the third in her series that guides young readers through Bible adventures with Lucy and Papa Joe while retelling Noah’s Ark and the meaning of the rainbow.   • Soybean farmers in Murfreesboro are urged to use free nematode soil tests this fall at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center through the UT-TSU Agricultural Extension Service—this test will help detect pests that may lower yields, and out-of-state producers will pay $15 per sample.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rutherford County educators Brandon Eldridge and Megan Snyder were named to the Civic Education and Engagement Advisory Committee by Secretary of State Tre Hargett — a statewide group of 14 educators chosen to boost civic education — marking Rutherford as one of two counties with multiple representatives.  WGNS
  • Larry Creasy will take on a new role with Rutherford County Schools as the secondary coordinator in the instruction department starting in January, ending his 12-year service as Siegel High School principal. He will work with high school principals to improve academic opportunities—replacing Dr. Dawn Poole who retires effective Dec. 31.  Murfreesboro.com
  • Rutherford County Schools will soon open its Choice School program that lets families choose different schools including charters and alternative options outside their home zones. Officials explained the program uses a lottery system—accepted students can stay through graduation without reapplying as capacity and new projects are finalized.  WGNS
