- ➤ The Rutherford County Farmers Market expanded its season to run year-round when its winter-spring market opened last Friday at Lane Agri-Park (315 John R. Rice Blvd) offering local produce, meats, handmade goods, and activities for all ages. The market will operate every Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon until April except November 28 and December 26, with the regular Tuesday and Friday schedule resuming next May. WGNS
- ➤ Salvation Army of Nashville and Murfreesboro said more local families have sought help with food and utility bills as federal benefits like SNAP and LIHEAP continue to be delayed. The agency warned that the delay—critical for many households—may force parents to choose between heating and eating if benefits are not approved soon. FOX 17
- ➤ The Kiwanis Club of Rutherford County is holding its second annual Cookie Train family event on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at The Remington Room in Smyrna from 5pm—7pm. Sponsored by Redstone Federal Credit Union, the free event will feature Santa photos and local vendor giveaways, with a $20 donation option for a ride on the Cookie Train that includes a sweet treat and milk. - ➤ Middle Tennessee State University is hosting a free virtual summit on AI and art via Zoom on November 18-19 to explore how technology is reshaping artistic practice. - ➤ Liberty Creek High School senior Nathan Hawkins was named The Tennessean Inspirational Student of the Week after receiving 44.66% of 27,857 votes cast by educators and counselors, beating Hailey Jade Evans by 1,726 votes. He is an aspiring engineer who also sings and plays guitar in his church band—his strong grades and leadership earned him a spot at Tennessee Governor's School for the Sciences and Engineering at the University of Tennessee. - ➤ Laura Sosh-Lightsy, a former MTSU associate dean fired on Sept. 10 for her social media posts about Charlie Kirk's death, is suing the university for violating her First Amendment rights—she claims political pressure and inconsistent handling of similar cases led to her termination. - ➤ On Nov. 6, Rutherford County Schools Director Dr. James Sullivan presented a rezoning plan for eight middle schools at the board meeting—he proposed moving some Smyrna Middle students back to La Vergne Middle and shifting a group from Rocky Fork Middle to Smyrna Middle to balance enrollment.
