  • Desert Storm veteran David Weill will speak at Tuesday’s tribute at the Rutherford County Courthouse—located on Murfreesboro’s historic square—at 11:00, November 11, where community members gather to honor military service.  WGNS
  • The Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center celebrated its decade of service on November 3 with a ceremony at MTSU—where leaders like Lieutenant General Keith Huber and General Tommy Baker highlighted the center’s support for over 1500 veterans and military families.  MTSU Sidelines
  • The Salvation Army on West Main Street in Murfreesboro reports that more families need food and help with bills as the federal shutdown continues. The organization and Kroger launched the Food Angels program on November 9—an effort to ensure families get the groceries needed for a full holiday meal.  WGNS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, November 9, a Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter crashed in Wilson County, killing crew member Allan Williams and seriously injuring flight paramedic Andy Sikes and the pilot—no patient was aboard at the time.  Rutherford County Source

  • M.L.Rose Neighborhood Pub will open its doors on Nov. 24 at 2108 Medical Center Parkway just ahead of Thanksgiving, according to founder Austin Ray. The new location will be the eighth for the local chain and will offer a lively space with a varied menu and weekly events including Neighbor Hour and team trivia.  Rutherford County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • MTSU Theater and Dance staged Pirates of Penzance on Nov. 6 at Tucker Theater, where actors and musicians presented a satirical comedy with modern pop culture twists — blending classic operetta with fresh humor to engage audiences of all ages. The production combined lively choreography and vocal challenges with a mix of traditional and updated elements that received enthusiastic applause from community members.  MTSU Sidelines

  • Residents can now vote for the Murfreesboro area TSSAA athlete of the week for Nov. 3-8. The nominees include Blackman's Jaevion Elliott, Central Magnet's Blake Nutter, Eagleville's Jonathan Jordan, MTCS' Knox Carden, Oakland's Craig Tutt, Riverdale's Jacob Vaughn, Rockvale's Lakin Hailey, Siegel's Blake Pilkington and Smyrna's Succory Weathers—votes must be cast by 2 p.m. on Nov. 13.  The Daily News Journal
  • DNJ released the nominees for the Murfreesboro area TSSAA athlete of the week for November 3-8—recognizing local student athletes for their exceptional performance in school sports.  The Daily News Journal
  • The Predators lost 5 to 4 to the Stars on November 8 even though they led twice—coach Andrew Brunette said key mental errors and defensive gaps hurt the team. The team with a record of five wins, eight losses and four ties will face the Rangers today at 6 p.m. and then travel to Sweden for games against the Penguins on November 14 and November 16.  The Daily News Journal
