- ➤ Yesterday, heavy traffic at Nashville International Airport led to a noon crash that closed I-40 West and caused 76 flight delays—some travelers left their cars to walk to the terminal because of winter weather and an Airbus update recall. FOX 17
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ In-N-Out announced it will open new restaurants in Middle Tennessee with locations in Lebanon, Antioch, and Murfreesboro scheduled to open by the end of 2025—adding to its regional growth. A location in Franklin will open early next year—bringing a fourth option to local diners. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Red Bicycle Roasting Co. on the Square in Murfreesboro was evicted on Nov. 18 after owing over ($11,000) in rent and had its water shut off on Nov. 13. The owners informed staff on Nov. 17 of the closure, leaving employees to look for new jobs amid slow business. MTSU Sidelines
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Middle Tennessee State University professor Lu Xiong got an $18K grant from the Casualty Actuarial Society to study a safe way for insurance companies to share work without giving up private details — the five-year project uses computer methods to keep data secure. The grant shows MTSU has a strong Actuarial Science program and will help make better ways to predict risks — boosting the school's research work. Rutherford County Source

- ➤ The Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System closed FY25 with a 10.2% return — well above its 6.75% assumed rate, boosting its portfolio by $5.3 billion to $74.9 billion as of June 30 and paying $3.4 billion in benefits to retirees statewide. Rutherford County Source
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Blood Assurance in Franklin reported a lower than preferred blood supply during the holiday season as donations drop and only a one to two day reserve is maintained instead of the advised three days. Starting today, donors will receive holiday-themed socks plus O-negative and AB plasma donors will get a $25 e-gift card, with incentives for all donors expanding mid-month to support local hospitals.
