- ➤ Families in Rutherford County will gather Friday, December 5, at the historic courthouse for the annual Christmas tree lighting presented by Middle Tennessee Electric—featuring free children’s activities, live music, caroling, and stage performances that lead up to Santa lighting the tree and taking free photos. Parking on the Public Square will close at 5 p.m., and guests are encouraged to use nearby garages while optional carriage rides are available for a fee. WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday evening, the City of Murfreesboro and the Central Tennessee Regional Solid Waste Planning Board filed suit in Rutherford County Chancery Court to force BFI to follow state law in its plan to add a 70-foot landfill mound and boost capacity by 19 million tons. City officials said the suit follows seven environmental violations and more than 4,000 odor complaints—raising concerns about public health and local safety. WGNS

- ➤ Creek Wood High held its Thanksgiving Tournament last week with the girls winning games against Giles County (45-41), Waverly (45-35), and Harpeth (41-19) despite missing seniors Karleigh Stevenson and Abby Baker.
