  • Tomorrow, Dec. 5, Main Street near the Rutherford County Courthouse hosts the annual Celebrate Christmas event from 5 p.m., offering local shopping, children’s crafts, hot cocoa, and carriage rides, and at 6:30 p.m. school bands and choirs perform with Santa lighting the Christmas tree.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cannonsburgh Village will host A Charming Christmas at Cannonsburgh starting Dec. 5 over three festive weekends. The village will feature extended hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on select days, with candle-lit tours, live music, and a holiday market on Dec. 6 — family fun at this historic site.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU held a groundbreaking event yesterday for a $73.4M aerospace facility at Shelbyville Airport — the new flight school will offer advanced training and bus service from the Murfresboro campus, with most operations moving in two years.  The Daily News Journal
  • SCORE released its annual 2026 State of Education report on Monday, outlining four priorities for Tennessee schools that include expanding career training, elevating teaching and increasing high-quality school options — all aimed at moving students forward. Leaders said the report marks progress toward meeting long-term TN2030 goals.  WGNS

  • The FDA has recalled over 1 million bags of shredded cheese made by Great Lakes Cheese Co, including Italian-style, pizza-style, and mozzarella blends, due to possible metal fragments. Local stores like Walmart and Publix sold the product in Tennessee and other states.  NewsChannel 5

  • At Siegel, the boys beat Centennial 87-84 and the girls won 61-23 in non-league action Tuesday — key players scored in double figures as both teams earned their third win of the season.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Oakland senior Craig Tutt signed with Ole Miss on Dec. 3 and said flipping his commitment was never an option even after coach Lane Kiffin left; he will play in the TSSAA Class 6A BlueCross Bowl on Dec. 6 at Chattanooga's Finley Stadium.  The Daily News Journal
  • Ozzy Wiesblatt of the Nashville Predators scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 2 and honored his late brother by pointing skyward during the 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames. He also got into a fight, showing his passion on the ice.  The Daily News Journal
