COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The community will gather at Stones River National Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 13 (11:00 a.m.) to honor the soldiers with designated wreath placements for Wreaths Across America Day; visitors should arrive fifteen minutes early for parking and a short walk to the site.  Murfreesboro.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m., families saw Santa and Mrs. Claus light a tall Christmas tree at Public Square — an event featuring local choirs, carriage rides and shops that celebrated the holiday spirit.  WGNS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On November 15, over 400 neighbors and 45 volunteers gathered at the Nissan plant in Smyrna for the Recycling Roundup — the largest event in its history — helping to divert over 74,000 pounds of waste from local landfills.  Murfreesboro.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Murfreesboro Police Department will offer a Citizens Police Academy for residents to experience law enforcement through ride-alongs, forensic lab tours and classroom sessions. Classes run Tuesday evenings from Jan. 27, 2026 through April 21, 2026 at police headquarters (1004 N. Highland Avenue) with applications now open on a limited basis.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee will host the Memphis Tigers in a game (tip off at 1 p.m. CT) at Murphy Center today.  WGNS
  • The Oakland Patriots won the Class 6A state championship Saturday by beating Ravenwood 62-21 at Finley Stadium, finishing their season 15-0 and securing their ninth title. Senior running back Craig Tutt tied the state record with seven rushing touchdowns during the game.  WGNS
  • WGNS and Big G TV are airing the TSSAA Class 6-A State Championship game between Oakland and Ravenwood today, with pregame coverage starting at 5:30 p.m. and kickoff at 6:00 p.m. local time.  WGNS
  • Craig Tutt tied a state record by scoring seven touchdowns as Oakland won 62-21 over Ravenwood in the Class (6A) BlueCross Bowl on Saturday at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium, and his MVP effort capped his final high school game.
