  • John Carroll, a World War II veteran, celebrated his 101st birthday Friday in Murfreesboro — he shared details of his early morning exercise routine and his military training from 1943 to 1946.  NewsChannel 5
  • The Salvation Army in Murfreesboro continues offering food, shelter, and housing services for over 3,500 neighbors, and as Christmas approaches its Angel Tree program will soon provide gifts to more than 1,350 children and seniors — rallying community support during the season.  Murfreesboro Post

  • In-N-Out opened its third restaurant in Murfreesboro two days after debuting in Tennessee + drawing an enthusiastic local crowd.  The Daily News Journal
  • Jim Demos, founder of Toot’s and Demos’ Restaurants in Rutherford County, died on Dec. 10 at age 91—local family and community leaders praised his legacy for mentoring staff and shaping local dining traditions.  Murfreesboro Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Holloway High School hosted an open house Dec. 11 to display restored photos of graduating classes from 1932 to 1968 at South Highland Ave. Local partners recovered images scattered after the school closed, and Principal Sumatra Drayton called the restoration a passion project — reconnecting the community with its history.  Rutherford County Source
  • The Rutherford County School Board approved new rezoning plans for elementary and middle schools on Thursday night, reducing transfers between schools and adjusting zones along Interstate 24 to manage overcrowding. Parents can submit forms by Jan. 16 for a transportation option for current 7th graders.  FOX 17

  • Joel Wyatt, one of the area's top football players, helped Oakland High win a state title and signed with the Vols on Dec. 3; he will join the team as an early enrollee on Jan. 15 to play safety but is ready for offense if needed.  The Daily News Journal
