CULTURE NEWS

  • The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum will offer pay what you want admission for area residents from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31 — letting locals explore country music history and family programs while tickets must be reserved in advance.  Rutherford County Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • State data show that over 8,500 workers were laid off in 2025 — a 19% increase from last year. Rutherford County employers, including Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, were hit with 658 job losses.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The City Schools Foundation will host its 19th annual Excellence in Education event on Friday, Mar. 20 at Macca Villa at Riverside (1218 W. Jefferson Pike) to raise funds for teacher grants and classroom upgrades that support local elementary schools. More event details will be announced in mid-January.  WGNS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents may see water levels drop by about one foot at J. Percy Priest Lake over the next five days as the Corps ramps up hydropower during a cold snap; boaters and marina operators are advised to take precautions plus monitor changes in the Stones River flow.  WGNS
  • Last night, Rutherford County residents watched the Geminid meteor shower peak between 2 and 4 a.m. facing east (viewers were advised to bundle up due to chilly December air) as Jupiter shone nearby, guiding their stargazing.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhonda Allen, a respected former county commissioner and small business leader, passed away, leaving a legacy of public service and faith in Murfreesboro. Allen’s Air Care and community members expressed gratitude for her guidance + support, with memorial details to be announced soon.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee will travel to Evansville to play Southern Indiana at Liberty Arena today.  WGNS
  • Local high school sports results show scores in basketball, wrestling, and bowling contests among region teams. Upcoming events are set from Dec. 16 to Dec. 22 at various community venues (check schedules for details).  Murfreesboro Post
