ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire rescue crews responded Saturday, Dec. 13, to a fryer fire at Krystal on South Church Street and quickly extinguished the flames while ventilating the building to ensure no injuries or lasting damage.  WGNS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • L.L. Bean will open its first Tennessee store in Franklin in July 2026 (the retailer opened seven stores this year) and add Middle Tennessee to its network, making the state the 21st to host a location.  The Daily News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 1,600 students graduated at Murphy Center on Saturday, Dec. 13 in a fall commencement ceremony that honored 1,626 graduates from undergraduate and graduate programs (including several master’s and doctoral recipients) as family and community cheered the celebration.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson Pike’s widening project finishes with new speed limits announced by Smyrna officials set to take effect Tuesday at noon. The updated limits follow detailed safety studies and improvements including added shoulders, sidewalks, bike lanes, and a bridge over the Stones River — aimed at protecting drivers and pedestrians.  WGNS

  • Vote is open for the Murfreesboro area TSSAA boys athlete of the week contest for Dec. 8-13 with candidates including Keller Jackson, Miles Alexander, Braylon Payne, Camden Cole, Elijah Carter, Chris Washington Jr., Arden Lewis, Kale Martin, Kaden Matthews and London Nelson — voting closes at 2 p.m. on Dec. 18.  The Daily News Journal
  • Murfreesboro schools announced nominees for the TSSAA girls athlete of the week for Dec. 8-13.
