Local leader Elizabeth Stephens, a retired Marine and CEO of DBS Cyber, will host the Stars of Sacrifice Gospel Christmas at the Tennessee State Veterans Home at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
20 to bring live music and connection for elderly veterans in state care.

In-N-Out Burger opened three new restaurants in Lebanon, Antioch and Murfreesboro, and fans now use the new thewaitapp (which crowdsources estimates) to check short wait times and plan visits since locations opened on Dec.
10 and Dec. 12 serve from 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.
🎓 Education
Discovery School in Murfreesboro had a strong year with local, state and national honors while principal Dr. Caitlin Bullard was named a finalist for the Tennessee Principal of the Year Award and recognized as Middle Tennessee Teacher of the Year.
The school also earned National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and K-12 Tree Campus designations.
Murfreesboro City Schools announced its 2025 Teachers of the Year and Novice Teacher of the Year, recognizing standout educators from several schools including district honorees at Hobgood Elementary and Discovery School.
Dr. Trey Duke praised the winners for their innovative methods and commitment to student success — a credit to the district’s high standards.
Rutherford County Schools is planning a new high school on Lee Road for 1,600 students by August to relieve overcrowding though enrollment fell by about 160 students.
The project is part of a $398 million plan — aimed at cutting reliance on portable classrooms — to meet future growth needs.
🏥 Health
Rutherford County’s health department released inspection scores for food service and pool facilities for Dec.
11 to 18, covering locations in La Vergne, Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and Gallatin. Routine and follow-up inspections were completed and scores posted for public review; any food safety concerns could be reported by calling 8002938228.
🏈 Sports
Season tickets for the 2026 MTSU baseball season are on sale at Reese Smith Jr. Field, with 32 home games including a Feb.
13 opener against the Bellarmine Knights (ticket options range from $50 to $72).
MTSU women's basketball lost 68-52 to Auburn while the men's team won 68-67 against Kennesaw State.
