ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Heavy rain and strong winds moved through Murfreesboro on Thursday evening, prompting emergency crews to clear downed power lines, fallen trees, and hazardous conditions; Middle Tennessee Electric is working to restore power while only minor injuries were reported.  Rutherford County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music band Exile will headline Harken Hall’s New Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 31 with an early midnight countdown and hit songs including 'Kiss You All Over.' Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at 514 Madison Station Blvd, and tickets start at $35.  Murfreesboro Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tennessee education officials released the 2024-25 public school letter grades on Dec. 18, noting improvements statewide with an increase in A’s and a drop in F’s. Murfreesboro City Schools received 1 A, 4 B’s, 6 C’s, and 2 D’s as schools with lower grades face corrective plans next school year.  The Daily News Journal
  • State Rep. Scott Cepicky introduced House Bill 1466 to require public schools statewide to conduct the Presidential Fitness Test to gauge student strength, endurance, and flexibility. The bill directs the Department of Education to issue guidelines and accommodations for students with special needs.  FOX 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tennessee seniors enrolled in Medicare will see lower prices for ten medications, including drugs for cancer and heart disease, starting Jan. 1 as part of negotiated discounts. Some insurance premiums are expected to rise in 2026 while lawmakers consider increasing Medicaid reimbursements (targeting OB/GYN and mental health services).  The Daily News Journal
