COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local residents donate new & gently used coats for Barnabas Vision’s annual winter coat giveaway to help neighbors stay warm. The free event runs Monday, Dec. 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at 141 MTCS Road.  WGNS
  • At Fire Station 1, a SERVPRO business rep presented Firefighter Dillion Meyer with the SERVPRO Team Bisig Life Saving Award for rescuing an older man from a burning home on E. Burton Street earlier this year—he and Firefighter Ryan St. Peter safely pulled the resident out amid heavy smoke.  WGNS
  • On Saturday, Mar. 14, the 15th Annual Special Kids Race will start at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and SurgiCenter at 1272 Garrison Drive. Runners & walkers can choose from the 15K, 10K, 5K, or 1-mile Family Fun Run to support Special Kids Therapy and Nursing Center.  WGNS
  • The Rutherford County SRO Division will host its first pickleball tournament to support back-to-school clothing for local middle and high school students on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 at Boro Pickleball (605 River Rock Blvd); teams of two register for $50 and play matches in youth and adult divisions.  WGNS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has received over $880,000 from USDA’s Emerging Markets Program to boost exports for local hardwood products. The agency will lead trade missions to India & Vietnam while hosting inbound delegations to connect producers with international buyers.  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is inviting youth in grades K-12 to submit original artwork of Tennessee native fish for the national Art of Conservation: Fish Art Contest, open until Feb. 28.   • The Middle Tennessee men's basketball team hosts Cumberland today at its home court in Murfreesboro after an exciting conference opener on Wednesday + fans are invited to cheer on the team.  WGNS
  • MTSU women's basketball beat Wichita State 46-45 on Nov. 20 at the Murphy Center, with Savannah Davis and Macie Phifer making key plays. The Lady Raiders will face Kennesaw State on Jan. 2 (6:00 p.m.) as they start their Conference USA schedule.  MTSU Sidelines
