- ➤ United Communications celebrated a landmark year in community engagement in 2025 by supporting over 120 local events and donating more than $250k across 11 counties – including free fiber service to volunteer fire departments, schools, and nonprofits. - ➤ Rutherford County law enforcement will increase patrols on New Year's Eve while free Uber rides up to $25 will be offered between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. near Murfreesboro + AAA will extend its Tow to Go program until Jan. 2 to help prevent drunk driving. WGNS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Murfreesboro City Schools is accepting nominations for the 2025–26 MCS Hall of Fame to honor retired educators, bus drivers, and other long-serving staff who helped shape the district’s 130-year legacy. The nomination process is open until Jan. 30 with applications available online or from the district office. WGNS
- ➤ Middle Tennessee families are set to explore hundreds of local K-12 options during National School Choice Week starting January 25. The event includes open houses and parent nights in Rutherford and nearby counties to help parents choose among public, private, homeschool and other education models. WGNS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Tennessee Department of Agriculture raised TAEP cost-share limits for Middle Tennessee farm families for the 2025-26 program year, increasing maximums from $2,000 to $3,000 for livestock equipment, from $7,000 to $8,000 for hay storage, and from $4,000 to $5,000 for working structures + mailed notifications in early December.
