- ➤ SRO Ali Albouhamed from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (honored for action) was named SRO of the Month for February by the National Association of School Resource Officers for restraining a student at Stewarts Creek High School in November. His decisive teamwork kept the student safe until additional help arrived. WGNS
- ➤ Retired District Attorney Bill Whitesell — who led Murfreesboro’s DA for 34 years — reflected on his career and founding the Child Advocacy Center in 2000, which has aided 21,000 children. He remains active on the board as the center seeks a permanent home to expand services. Murfreesboro.com
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A Night in Africa, presented by the African Student Organization, took place Feb. 13 at MTSU. The show featured vibrant fashion, live hand drum music, and community dance routines that celebrated Black heritage (Afrochella style). MTSU Sidelines
- ➤ Lindsey Jennings will become the first executive director of the Friends of Stones River National Battlefield on March 9 at the historic site, reflecting her lifelong passion for local heritage (she grew up with Civil War history in her family). WGNS

- ➤ Big Blue Marble Academy celebrated its ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. at 5206 Jack Byrnes Drive and now offers early childhood education that features play-based learning and cultural enrichment for infants through preschoolers. Murfreesboro.com

- ➤ The National Guard Association of Tennessee held its 2026 State Conference at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center from Feb. 12–14, drawing soldiers, airmen, retirees, families and partners for professional development sessions, legislative updates and networking events. - ➤ Flu cases are rising in Rutherford County—Coffee County schools closed last week after many students fell ill, and health officials urge residents to get vaccinated as Tennessee remains in an active flu period. WGNS

- ➤ The TSSAA Division II wrestling tournaments wrapped up Saturday afternoon at MBA — Father Ryan’s Colten Calvin captured the 106-pound state championship after the competitions that began Friday. Murfreesboro Post
