COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A crew with the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System delivered Thanksgiving dinners to veterans in the HUD-VASH program at the Glastonbury Woods Apartments—about 430 veterans who have experienced homelessness received a meal through a coordinated effort with the YAIPAK non-profit. The service helped ensure these veterans have support during the holiday season.  NewsChannel 5
  • The Journey Home moved into its new building at 1207 Old Salem Road in Murfreesboro in October to expand services for those in need—offering a Market for food and clothing, a Community Cafe for 50 clients, a Wells Clinic, and transitional family housing. The upgraded facility now provides additional support through mental health counseling and a weekly Wellness Clinic.  The Daily News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rutherford County Schools met Monday night to review new attendance zone options as several middle schools are projected to exceed capacity when a new middle school opens next year—Blackman Middle is nearing 1,800 students, Christiana Middle nearly 1,200, and Rockvale Middle nearly 1,600. The board will revisit proposals on December 9 and vote on a final rezoning plan later in December to relieve overcrowding.  FOX 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • For the week of Thanksgiving, Thursday's garbage collection is moved to Friday, November 28 while Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday pickups remain unchanged. Residents must have their trash cans curbside by 6 a.m.  City of Murfreesboro
  • Tennessee state law prohibits retail package stores from selling alcoholic beverages on specific holidays—Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Rules for beer and wine in grocery and convenience stores differ from those for liquor stores.  NewsChannel 5

  • Pet site Rover released its Trending Pet Names report showing that Luna is the top name for both dogs and cats in 2025 while names like Summit for dogs and Willie for cats have grown fast—Tennesseans are naming pets after local legends like Pat Summitt and Peyton Manning.  The Daily News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oakland rallied from a 10‐point deficit to beat Green Hill 21-17 in the TSSAA playoffs on November 21—Donte Cameron’s 78‐yard touchdown run gave the Patriots their first lead and maintained their state semifinal streak. The team will host rival Blackman in the semifinals on November 28.  The Daily News Journal
  • MTSU hosts Sam Houston on senior day today at 2 p.m. CDT at Johnny 'Red' Floyd Stadium, marking the final home contest for the Blue Raiders this season. Twenty seniors will play their last game as coach Derek Mason urged the team to protect its legacy—redshirt freshman Roman Gagliano is set to start while Nick Vattiato remains sidelined.  MTSU Sidelines
