COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rutherford County SROs will host the Shop with the Sheriff fundraiser on December 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toot’s restaurants—Broad Street, South Church, and Franklin Road—to raise funds for Christmas shopping for about 30 needy elementary students.  WGNS
  • A survey by the Real Christmas Tree Board shows that live tree prices will remain steady this season and local vendors in and near Rutherford County, such as Boy Scout Troop 197 (in Murfreesboro) and Blackjack Farm in Shelbyville, are offering a variety of options with services like tree cutting and delivery. These vendors provide both choose-and-cut and pre-cut trees along with holiday extras to serve local customers throughout the season.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee law allows beer sales on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter at grocery and package stores while liquor stores remain closed on those holidays. The law also bans alcoholic beverage sales from 11 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Monday and permits beer sales on Sunday after 10 a.m. from TABC—licensed businesses.  FOX 17
  • The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance reminds drivers that deer mating and migration seasons raise the risk of vehicle crashes — which can cause injuries and expensive repairs — and advises them to check their auto coverage with their insurance agents.  Rutherford County Source

  • Oakland High School beat Blackman High School 42-14 on Nov. 28th—led by Craig Tutt’s four-touchdown performance—to secure its sixth straight BlueCross Bowl appearance. The team will face undefeated Ravenwood High School in the state championship on Dec. 6th at 7 p.m.  MTSU Sidelines
  • MTSU football won 31-24 in overtime against New Mexico State in their final season game, with redshirt freshman Roman Gagliano throwing the winning touchdown to AJ Jones — the win marked the team's second straight victory under coach Derek Mason.   • Franklin Road Academy junior Omarii Sanders, a 4-star safety, verbally committed to Vanderbilt football on Nov. 29—he chose Vanderbilt over offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Texas A&M and Miami. He said coach Clark Lea’s leadership and the team’s progress influenced his decision.  The Daily News Journal
  • Middle Tennessee closed its season with an overtime win over New Mexico State, 31–24, on Saturday at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Quarterback Roman Gagliano threw an 11-yard game-winning touchdown pass to AJ Jones—securing the Blue Raiders their first Conference USA road win.  Murfreesboro Post
